Speed Partz and Famed Car Builder, John Godfrey
Announce New Upright Mini-Sprint
Cincinnati,
Ohio—September 10th, 2004—A joint project between Speed
Partz and famed midget and sprint car builder John Godfrey was
recently announced. The end result will be the introduction of a new
upright mini-sprint produced at Godfrey’s state-of-the-art Brownsburg,
Indiana facility. The mini-sprint will be called A FOZ Chassis.
“Although building
our own racing cars was not a part of any business plan we had ever
written, we knew the opportunity to work with one of the nation’s
leading car builders was an opportunity we simply could not pass up,”
commented Speed Partz Larry Fasse. New Zealander John Godfrey is best
known for building Stealth into the nation’s top manufacturer of
midgets and sprint cars before selling the company. “This has been a
fun deal for me. Prior to starting Stealth, I worked building
mini-sprints for Gary Doemelt,” commented Godfrey.
Each party has
been able to bring knowledge and experience to the table. Fasse’s
Speed Partz has a large customer base of upright mini-sprint
competitors. “For the past few years we have been informally
surveying our customers asking them what they want in a car. We’ve
tried to incorporate many of these suggestions into the car. Since we
carry a large selection of parts from several manufacturers, our
customers will also be able to equip their FOZ chassis with bolt-on
components that match their own preferences”, commented Fasse.
Godfrey’s
knowledge and experience building racing cars is legendary. Godfrey’s
cars have carried stars like Sammy Swindell, Jay Drake, Kenny Jacobs,
Page Jones and many others to wins in the sports biggest races
including a seven year streak at the famed Belleville Nationals.
Godfrey is joined by East coast open wheel fixture Jim Rieder. Rieder
has an extensive background in the sport that dates back to 1964, when
he owned a midget on the East Coast. In 1972 he teamed with Pancho
Carter to win the USAC National midget title, and Rieder has remained
closely involved in the sport in a wide array of roles including car
builder, chief mechanic, crew chief, and car owner. Most recently
Rieder has worked with teams that have fielded cars for KC Kahne, JJ
Yeley, Tracy Hines and others.
The car features a
coil front, torsion bar rear suspension and a slightly larger cockpit
for bigger drivers. “For safety reasons we’ve decided to beef up a
few areas on the car, including the use of a midget style front axle.
Additionally, all of the cars will come off a jig to ensure
consistency and weld quality”, commented Fasse.
Pricing and the
completion of components are nearing completion. “We expect to
complete on-track testing within the month and start taking orders by
mid-October”, commented Fasse. For more information visit
